I was in Guitar Center today to pick up an audio adapter that I needed at the last-minute for a show. While I was wandering around, I spotted some Light Source Mega clamps. Usually Guitar center only has cheapo American DJ junk, so I was pretty surprised to find these. The markup was only around three dollars so I bought a pair. I am not generally a fan of Guitar center, they have treated me really poorly, but I know where I am going if I need a high quality clamp quickly.
Fire and Ice, as seen at LDI 2009, are two new color specific LED fixtures offered by ETC. Fire produces reds, oranges and ambers and Ice produces blues, indigos, and greens. ETC touts them as being able to produce extremely intense colors with, “brightness levels that rival or surpass the outputs of tungsten lighting fixtures,” all the while being more energy-efficient than conventional fixtures. They both feature Luxeon Rebel 2.5W LEDs with a rated 50,000 hour LED life. In units longer than 11” every 11 inches has a unique DMX address.
Google announces that it will begin testing a fiber services, with an incredible speed of 1 Gb/s. Of course everyone and their grandma is going to try to apply their community for testing, but it will be interesting to see which city they pick and the services quality. [Ars Technica]

Barco, High End Systems, releases the FQ-100 an update of the long-standing F-100 fogger. It uses the same 9.5 liter tank as the F-100. It also features, an optoelectronic liquid sensor, an LCD menu, DMX, 3-pin and 5-pin XLR DMX in/out connectors, a fluid level sight gauge, and a safety cable mounting point. Yea, no dip switches or 3 to 5 pin adapters. What are your thoughts on the “Q” ?
Free Art Technology (or FAT) released .GML an XML file format created specifically for recording and sharing graffiti tags. The Graffiti Markup Language allows artists to share and create tags effectively bring the graffiti artist into the 21st century.
I had to see what .GML was all about, so I put together a small graffiti analysis rig. It was really easy, it requires only a piece of glass, cardboard, a computer, a laser pointer, and a web cam. Those materials are so common that it is easy for anyone to build. Once You have created a tag you can upload it to #000000book.com (that’s hex code for Black book). You can see a result of my work below.
Here is a complete list of programs supporting .GML.
The applications for .GML are endless and we can look to the future for some really cool projects with it . Here is one such project.
Yesterday we switched servers from wordpress.com to a justhost.com server. WordPress.com just wasn’t cutting it in my opinion and was holding the site back from its true potential. Look for improvements in the days ahead, so if it looks different from day-to-day don’t be alarmed.
